No ownership registry

The major carbon registries like UN-CDM, Verra, and Gold Standard currently only record issuance and retirements of carbon credits, they do not record current ownership of carbon credits.

That means primary and secondary market players usually maintain their own ownership records and trading agreements as evidence, hence explaining why it is mainly still an OTC market.
